Tax Payment

Tax Notices and Due Dates

Property Tax Notices are issued in the spring each year after Council passes the mill rate bylaw. If your property assessment changes, you may receive a Supplementary Tax Notice based on the change in the assessed value of the property.

Wilton property owners will receive their  Property Tax Notices by mail or E-Notice in May.

Property taxes are based on the calendar year (January to December) and are due on December 31 each year, unless taxes are paid using the Pre-Authorized Payment Plan Service.

We encourage ratepayers to take advantage of any Discount periods made available, and can work with you to arrange a payment plan that works for you to avoid any arrears and penalties.

Penalties and Arrears

If any current year taxes are outstanding after December 31, the property will be assessed a 1% monthly penalty.

If the current year's taxes remain outstanding after April 30, the monthly penalty continues to be added to outstanding balance, and the property becomes subject to proceedings under The Tax Enforcement Act.

Citizens Guide to Tax Enforcement

All penalties are added to the tax account, and compound monthly.
